Bring back blogging

Well, I've been wanting to do it for a while, but technical hurdles made it very difficult. Change of OS, change of computers etc. make things very difficult for those who use static site generators, unless you know what you are doing.

It took a lot longer than I thought to be able to copy my source files to the new machine/OS and revive this blog. I now have a relatively stable setup, combined with a git repository to facilitate such a migration. Hopefully I will be able to keep this site going without any awkward pauses.

There is a thing called 'Bring Back Blogging'. But I could not make up my mind to join it, because it might mean putting too much of pressure on myself to write and publish blog posts. It doesn't have to be so. But I admire those who take part in it.

Also in the blogosphere

WordPress.com just suspended my cat's blog. By the looks of it we are unlikely to get it reinstated. Their suspension process feels very brutal. There was no prior warning or flagging of “objectionable” content. Poof! It was gone all of a sudden.

I (I mean, my cat!) had that blog going for a while, shared among close friends and family, with those who know the cat “in person”. I cannot think of anything that violated their terms of service other than me writing from the point of view of a cat! Is there any remote chance of getting suspended on WP.com for impersonation / identity theft in such a case?

I used the contact form linked in the suspension notice to make a request that they review the suspension. In the meantime I attempted to export the blog. But that too doesn't seem functional.

Even WP.com can be so unpredictable and arbitrary. Self-host, backup, and take control of what you write.
